The Challenge
Carnegie Hall demands a level of technical and artistic excellence that few AV companies can meet. As an approved supplier, CitiView must operate within strict venue protocols: no damage to the historic architecture, no interference with the acoustic environment that makes Carnegie Hall world-famous, and flawless execution in one of the most scrutinized performance spaces on earth.
Projection mapping at Carnegie Hall requires custom-built 3D surface models of the stage and proscenium, precise projector alignment, and real-time warping and blending software capable of rendering complex visual content seamlessly across curved and irregular architectural surfaces — all while the orchestra or performers are live on stage.
Our Solution
CitiView’s projection mapping workflow begins months before the performance. Our team conducts on-site surveys of the performance space, building precise 3D models of every surface to be mapped. Custom content is developed in collaboration with the artistic director or concert producer, then rendered and tested in our facility before the event.
On-site, we deploy high-output Christie or Panasonic laser projectors positioned in the hall’s rigging grid, with disguise (d3) media servers driving real-time 3D projection mapping. Backup projectors are pre-aligned for instant switchover, maintaining the zero-failure standard that Carnegie Hall requires. All systems operate on clean power with UPS backup.
