How To Make Your Presentation A Success

Get the sweats? Clammy palms? Can’t stop tapping your foot? If you have a fear of public speaking or presenting you know all about how stressful getting up in front of an audience can be. And while they may not completely cure your nervous symptoms, these three secrets can help make your presentation a successful one.

Make It Understandable

Have you ever listened to somebody speak to an audience where you weren’t able to understand their message? Your crowd will be much more engaged if your presentation is free of jargon, buzzwords, complexity and confusion. So how can you make it happen? Think of it like Twitter, you only have a 140 character limit (although this won’t actually be the case).

Make It Memorable

How can you say your presentation was a success if the audience can’t remember what you spoke about? Try to incorporate the rule of three. We tend to only remember three to seven points in the short term so if you can limit your presentation to three major points, or group your content into threes, there’s a much better chance they will be able to recall what you said down the road.

Make It Emotional

We don’t mean that you have to make every member of the audience leave in tears or have them laughing at everything you say. But you should appeal to their emotions – it’s a great way to get them to lock in on what you’re presenting. You can do this by telling a story, but make sure it relates in some way to a main point of your presentation.

While we can’t write the actual script for you, the experts at CitiView Audio Visual can supply you with everything else you need. From staging and lighting to screen rentals and audio/visual equipment – we’ve got you covered! Give us a call today at 212-632-5196 to learn more about our services.

Inquiries from around the world for an online recording prompted us to find a sponsor and hire CitiView to record and edit our events. In April one of our latest video recordings became Vimeo staff pick in the art category. See it here: https://vimeo.com/124062807. The folks at CitiView are very responsive to the specific needs of our spaces and set ups and took great care to be sure the editing was fluid and professional. Why Stream Your Next Event?

Live streaming is the way of the future. We’ve seen it with red carpet events, professional sports and even seminars and business meetings. So why should you stream your next event? Find out below:

Reach a Larger Audience

You can turn your small meeting into a grand event with live streaming. If you have an important message you want to broadcast to people all over the map, it’s not a possibility. The days of pitching your ideas to a few coworkers in an office’s conference room are over. The same idea goes for presentations, fashion shows and the like!

Real-Time Engagement

Another benefit of live streaming is the ability to engage with your audience. With no delay, your viewers can participate in live chat and ask questions. You then have the ability to respond to their questions right away.

What Do You Need?

In order to stream your event, you will need a couple of things. First, you’ll need a camera. You’ll also need an encoder and fast upload speed to eliminate the risk of glitches and lags. Finally, you are going to need a streaming service and if all of that sounds like too much for you, don’t worry – we’ll take care of the entire set up for you!

At CitiView Audio Visual, live streaming is one of our specialties. Call us at 212-632-5196 the next time you are preparing for an event, and leave the rest to us!

A Brief History of Audio

From the first tinfoil cylinder to today’s advanced equipment, the world of audio has come a long way. Think about what life was like before microphones, headphones and speakers were invented. How was anyone able to hear anything? Take a look below to find out how audio first began and how it has evolved over the years:

It all started with Thomas Alva Edison working in his lab in 1877. It was then, when he succeeded in recovering Mary’s Little Lamb from a strip of tinfoil wrapped around a spinning cylinder. This was the beginning of audio as we know it.

A year later, the first music was put on a record, you may know it by the tune of “Yankee Doodle.” Then, roughly 10 years later Edison introduces the first electric-motor driven phonograph and the first “talking movie” comes around in 1913. Edison used his Kinetophone process to make this work – a cylinder player mechanically synchronized to a film projector.

In 1941, commercial FM broadcasting comes to fruition in the United States just before the first stereo tape recordings were created by Helmut Kruger in Berlin. For the next few decades, major advancements are made in the audio world which brings us to the Winter Olympics in 1998. The opening performance begins with Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” which was masterfully played and sung by synching live audio feeds from five continents across the globe. Pretty amazing!

At CitiView Audio Visual we are always looking forward to the future of audio. But for now, you can count on us any time you need audio services for your live event! Give us a call at 212-632-5196 for more information!

How To Make A Business Presentation Stand Out

If you’re not the artistic type, coming up with visual aids for your business presentation can be a nightmare. But there’s a wide range of “good” visuals, from simple posters to complex videos, that can help make your presentation stand out. After all, nobody wants to sit there and hear you speak for hours with nothing to else to look at, right?

A simple speech is a great way to deliver a message, but it won’t necessary make it stand out. Presenting information with visuals can enhance any presentation and help to keep the audience’s attention. Some of the most effective ways to incorporate visual aids include PowerPoints, flip charts and posters.

PowerPoints

With hundreds of offerings including font, audio and images this is a great way to put together some visuals in an organized manner. There are however, a few things you should remember when creating a PowerPoint:

  • Just because there are hundreds of fonts, doesn’t mean you should use them all. Throwing in too many whacky ones can throw off the audience, so keep it consistent.
  • Choose font colors and backgrounds carefully. Colors like red and green can be difficult to see.
  • Don’t put too much information on the slides. Highlight 5 points at maximum and elaborate on them.

Flip Charts

Having a meeting that involves brainstorming ideas? Flip charts are the perfect way to organize your co-workers’ thoughts. Make sure to use a dark marker and write big enough so somebody thats 8 feet away will have no problem reading your notes.

Posters

Believe it or not, something as simple as a poster can help the audience remember a key point. You can keep it simple by adding a few graphics and some text or go all out and have it professionally printed and laminated. Just stay away from posters that are too busy and stick with something that catches the eye.

Why Hire A Professional Audio Engineer?

There are certain things you should leave to the pros and recording your events is definitely one of them. If you want to make sure everything is captured, clear and heard without any problems hiring a professional audio engineer is a must. After all, you have plenty of other things to take care of during the day of the event.

Why Record Your Event?

Whether you want to use the content in your next podcast, in a future promo video or simply to look back on as a fond memory, it’s always a smart choice to record your event.

Experience Is Key

The Early Days

When audio and video streaming first came into play in the late ‘90s, it wasn’t all that fun. Depending on the speed of your computer and internet connection, you could spend more time watching a black screen, or at the word “buffering”, than you actually spent watching video. But as technology has evolved, the streaming process is much more user-friendly today.

How It Works

In a nutshell, information travels in the form of satellite signals or radios waves to your electronic device. This way you can watch and listen to what’s going all across the globe in real-time.

Our Services

At CitiView, we offer expert webcasting, recording and video production services. Our Multi Camera Switching, Picture-in-Picture and Content Delivery features allow you to captivate any audience whether they’re down the road or across the ocean. Live streaming your wedding is the perfection solution for any of those “distant relatives” that can’t make it for your special day.

Interested in these services? Give the experts at CitiView Audio Visual a call today at 212-632-5196 to find out how we can make your wedding the most beautiful and the most memorable day of your life!

Common Projector Problems

You’ve spent endless hours practicing your speech. You put together a dynamite visual presentation, and you’re ready to “wow” your audience. It’s time to set up the projector and get everything ready for the event, when all of a sudden you experience problems with the machine. What do you do?

video projector

Nowadays, projectors are a staple in most business meetings and presentations because of their ability to accompany a speech with visual aids. While they can really enhance your event, there are a few problems you may face when operating an LCD projector. But don’t worry, it’s usually a quick fix!

Purple Dots

If you turn the machine on only to notice pink or purple dots on the screen, it means there are dust particles in the green panel. Dust particles can affect the quality of the images you are displaying, so you should clean the projector regularly to eliminate this problem.

Poor Image Quality

Are your images blurry or distorted? This can be a result of an unaligned computer resolution. Most new projectors come with an automatic alignment feature but if yours doesn’t have one, all you need to do is adjust the computer’s resolution until the images improve.

Remote Control Isn’t Working

If your remote doesn’t seem to be working, check the batteries first. If it still doesn’t work after replacing the batteries, move a bit closer to the machine. Most remote controls have a recommended distance range and you may be too far away.

Need a projector for your next event? Whether you need the actual machine, or would simply like to rent projection screens, CitiView Audio Visual has you covered! Give us a call today at 212-632-5196.

Make The Switch To LEDs!

Why switch to LEDs? The days of incandescent bulbs are over as more and more people are trading them up for LED bulbs. Longer lifespan, less energy and less heat are just a few of the many reasons to make the change. We switched, have you?

Less Energy

LEDs produce far less heat than standard incandescent bulbs, therefore they endure much less heat loss. As a result they are more energy efficient, sometimes up to 85% more than the vacuum/filament method used in incandescents.

In addition to using less energy, you’ll use fewer bulbs. Tired of replacing your bulbs multiple times per year? Well, some LED bulbs can last up to 50,000 hours. That’s a long time if you ask us!

The Green Choice

We think the decision is simple, but if you’re still not convinced here are a few more benefits. Even though you may have spend a few more dollars upfront, LEDs can save you hundreds of dollars in the long run. Consider this: even if you spent $100 for a single bulb, you’ll only need one every 10-20 years. Spending less money on home lighting can save you about 7% on your electric bills which will be far more than the initial $100.

At CitiView Audio Visual, we’ve made the switch to LEDs. While still providing the quality and brightness you expect from exceptional stage lighting, LED lighting is not only the green choice, it’s the best choice. So give us a call the next time you’re hosting an event, and let us take care of the lighting!
