The Bright Future of Projectors

The days of traditional projector lamps are just about over. Lasers are making their way into the machines and bringing lots of benefits with them. See below to learn more about the future of projectors:

iStock_000001709536_Medium

Not only do lasers provide the biggest and best images you can see, they last longer than traditional lamps, won’t break or blow out as easily and offer an almost instant on/off. Not to mention, they’re much more efficient.

What can you expect? Laser projectors won’t be much different than what you’re used to now – they’ll create light and then use the light to manipulate an image on the screen. The major difference is what is creating the light.

Just like most technology, lasers are expensive because they are new to the market. We are excited to see where the future takes us and we hope to see the prices come down soon.

How Old Is High-Resolution Audio?

If somebody told you the first consumer high-res digital audio format was made available all the way back in 1948, would you believe them? Some say it wasn’t until the Super Audio CD (SACD) came around in 1999 and others will argue that as well.

iStock_000020359671_Small

I’m sure we can agree that both the SACD and The DVD-Audio (DVD-A) both sound better than the CD, but when was the first real consumer high-res audio made available to the public? You can listen to LPs from the 1970s and be convinced that this is where it started. Many recordings were filled with deep textures, synths, guitars, horns and percussion that were full of detail and most true music fans will tell you that it sounds better than anything produced in 2015.

But what’s the definition of high-resolution audio anyway? It sounds clearer and more like real music in simple terms. So this could be attributed to the vinyl LP that debuted back in 1948 with much better sound quality than the previous popular disk format.

We think the clearest answer is that there is no clear answer. It’s more about how the music makes you feel. If you can engage with the music and it makes you feel great, that’s all that matters.

Keep that in mind when you’re looking for professional audio solutions for your next live event. CitiView Audio Visual has what it takes to make it sound spectacular! Give us a call today at 212-632-5196 to learn more.

Bose Makes Push To Enter Kitchen Appliance Market

You’ve probably heard the name associated with high-quality speakers and audio equipment, but kitchen appliances? That’s right, the Bose Corporation seems to be interested in expanding their line of products to include cooktops. What does that mean for the audio giant? See below to learn more:

Bose has been a top name when it comes to the audio speaker and sound system industry for years, but who would have thought they could enter the kitchen appliances industry? They have recently filed a patent application for a “cooktop power control system” that has the ability to change the power of the burners based on desired and actual cookware temperatures.

If they do in fact create an induction cooktop, they will have to face competition from top appliance manufacturers like Samsung and GE.

We’d like to see the outcome of their desire to enter the kitchen appliance industry, but for now we’ll continue to focus on their quality sound systems and speakers.

With state of the art equipment and technology, we provide the crystal clear sound you have been searching for. So when you’re looking for audio equipment for your next event, call on the experts at CitiView Audio Visual!

How To Clean A Projector

Tired of looking at dark, blurry images on the screen? A projector is a great way to display presentations and can be very effective unless you have a dirty piece of equipment. While some cleaning steps are simple, others require a bit more attention.

  1. The first thing you’ll need to do is remove w the air filter assembly from the projector housing. If you are unsure how to do this, be sure to read the manual.
  2. Use a vacuum to suck out any dirt or debris that may be causing the image to look dirty or blurry. If you can’t get all of the dust, you can use warm soapy water to rinse it.
  3. Replace the air filter and put the housing back in place.
  4. Using a lens brush or a dry lint-free cloth, wipe the outer surface of the lens or lens cover. Be very gentle because if you rub too hard you can scratch the glass.

Need to rent a projector or projection screen for your next event? We can provide innovative solutions to help reach any size audience and set you apart from the competition. Call CitiView Audio Visual today at 212-632-5196.

How To Get Better Sound From Your Speakers

When it comes to listening to your favorite song, there’s nothing worse than having crappy speakers or headphones. While you can spend hundreds of dollars on top-of-the-line equipment, there are a few solutions that won’t cost you a penny. Say goodbye to the days of muffled, distorted sound.

  1. Get Closer: the closer you get to your speakers, the better they will sound. Why? It minimizes the destructive effects of room reflections and tunes out some of the background noise.
  2. Change the Volume: if your speakers or headphones can handle music at high volume, try it out. Sometimes, playing music louder will make it sound better but make sure not to listen at high volume for more than 30 minutes at a time.
  3. Position the Speakers: did you know that positioning speakers with their tweeters at or very close to ear-level can make the audio sound better? If you’re setting up for an event, try to position the speakers so they will be close to the audience’s ear level.

When it comes to audio solutions in the NYC area, there’s nobody better than CitiView Audio Visual. Give us a call today at 212-632-5196 to learn more and don’t forget to connect with us on Facebook!

Brief History of the Microphone

How does a microphone work? When was it invented? Why do we use them today during just about every live event? See below to find out the answers while we dive into a brief history of the microphone.

How Does It Work?

Sound waves need to be converted into electrical voltages and then converted back into soundwaves so an audience can hear the message through speakers. The microphone is a device that makes this all possible and they were first used with early telephones and radio transmitters.

How Did It All Begin?

Sir Charles Wheatstone was the first person to coin the phrase “microphone” in 1827 but it wasn’t until 1876 when Emile Berliner invented the first microphone used as a telephone voice transmitter. Soon after, the Bell Telephone company purchased the patent from Berliner for $50,000.

In 1942, the first ribbon microphone was invented for radio broadcasting and in 1964, Bell Laboratories received a patent for an electret microphone. This revolutionized the microphone industry with close to one billion produced each year. As technology continued to advance, more dynamic microphones were created which leaves us with the clear sound we hear today!

What is a Matrix Switch?

Is your next event going to consist of multiple screens with a number of video components? If you want your content to be shared everywhere at once or only on certain screens at a time, you’re going to need a matrix switch.

iStock_000020774821_Large

Matrix Switch Options

Depending on the number of inputs and outputs you need, there’s a matrix switch for that. They range from 2 inputs and 2 outputs (2×2) all the way up to 32 inputs and 32 outputs. They aren’t usually meant to be installed by your average-joe, so make sure to hire a professional or at least consult with one before using.

Why Do You Need One?

If you had a standard home theater system, the HDMI ports on the back of your system support the role of a matrix switch. However, if you want your video sources to be seen on multiple displays or even in separate rooms at the same time, then you need a separate matrix switch.

Why do all the hard work yourself? The next time you are hosting a live event, contact the experts at CitiView Audio Visual to take care of it for you!

How To Test Speaker Wires and Connections

What’s one of the most common problems with speakers? Their wires get tangled up in a pile and the hardest part is figuring out where they are supposed to go. But you don’t have to spend hours untangling the mess, you can trace the wires with common household batteries.

Speakers and their wires have a positive and negative polarity and so do batteries. Therefore you can hold one speaker wire to one of the batter terminals (using AA or AAA) and hold the other wire to the remaining terminal to find out where they are supposed to go.

To do this, take one of the wires and repeatedly touch and disconnect it from the terminal. You should hear a static sound each time the wire touches the terminal and this will allow you to identify the speaker. It’s a good idea to label each wire with is corresponding speaker so you won’t get them mixed up again.

How To Choose A Projection Screen

Size. Aspect ratio. Material. There’s a lot more to a projection screen than you may have thought and they can be the most vital part of a visual presentation. With so many options to choose from it can make your decision seem nearly impossible, but if you stick to these basic guidelines you’ll be able to put on a crystal clear display for your audience.

Consider The Size

Before you go ahead and rent a projection screen for your event, you need to consider the size of the room it’s going to be in and how many people will be focusing their eyes on the screen. Projectors create a limited amount of light and as you increase the image size, you decrease the overall brightness. At CitiView, we are stocked with projection screens ranging from 5ft. to 20ft. wide so we can accommodate just about any size room.

Width of the Screen vs. Height

Another important piece of the puzzle is the aspect ratio, or the proportions between the width of the screen and its height. Most projectors come equipped with a 16×9 display meaning a 16-foot-wide screen should be 9 feet tall. However, your screen doesn’t have to be 16×9 just because the projector is. There are plenty of ways you can adjust the projector to fill the screen.

Material

All projection screens are made from the same material, right? Wrong. Most basic screens are made from a smooth, vinyl material but there are also perforated and woven screens available. It’s a good idea to speak with the venue to find out what kind of lighting is used in the room because this will affect how the images show up on the screen’s material.
